Her battle with malaria and separation from Ashley Cole has seen her delve into her career head first, with a potential contract with American version of the show X Factor. However, despite her denying it, she still seems to find time for romance.
Rumours have been flying around about Cheryl's relationship with Derek for months. Are they dating? Or are they just good friends? It seems as though their New Year's Eve break away to Cape Town, South Africa, may have laid these rumours to rest. The American dancer, who met Cheryl on the set for the video "Parachute" has helped her through so much last year with her struggle with malaria and terrible treatment from Ashley Cole, and for that she seems eternally grateful, so it is no wonder that speculation has arisen. And this speculation now has support from the new couple's holiday in the sun.
Not only have they been spotted walking hand in hand on the beach, but at a party hosted by property tycoon, Preston Haskell, their relationship went to a new level. Party-goers who attended the bash at Haskell's mansion, overlooking Table Mountain, claimed that Cheryl and Derek shared a passionate kiss at the stroke of midnight and weren't ashamed of their embrace, cuddling and watching fireworks.
One party-goer noted how happy the couple looked together and commented how they had only eyes for each other, ignoring everyone else. Another close friend of the two reported that they are together and don't care who knows about it.
Even though Cheryl has claimed she has no time for a relationship right now on Alan Carr's Chatty Man, it seems as though she is managing to squeeze in some time for her American dancer friend. And Derek certainly isn't afraid of showing his love for Cheryl with a love-token gift of a £10,000 diamond bracelet.
Now admitting that she wants a future with Derek, Cheryl treated him to the holiday break away from all the stresses in England and they stayed in the One & Only Hotel in Cape Town, a luxurious complex costing more than £2,000 a night. The couple departed last Wednesday and from the moment they left England they behaved like love-struck teenagers, flirting and playing with each other, sealing their relationship with a kiss on New Year's Eve.
Cheryl and Derek will be jetting off for a skiing holiday before Cheryl moves to America to begin her career on the American X Factor, which will no doubt keep her incredibly busy. Derek is helping her find a place to live in LA, assisting her with the move and is reportedly very happy that they can live closer together.
